Like Predators before it, Fox intended the film to re-start the franchise but should have been focusing on making one great movie rather than prematurely considering sequels.
On a final note, they really need to sort the titling out. Predator , then Predator 2 , Predators , and, finally, The Predator. Why stop numbering them at 2, especially when the second film was already quite a loose sequel?
If Disney now the owners of Fox want to use that, they can have it for free. A good, standalone film is typically better for business than a botched franchise-starter, and Predators had an underutilized premise that is still up-for-grabs.
